Solitude

Amos 8:11-12
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Without question there is a major event going on in the spiritual world.  Pastors are being removed from places of ministry at an amazing rate.  Members of churches are finding more comfort in the privacy of their homes than in their churches.

At first blush, we cast blame on so many things.  The church programs are not sufficient.  The preaching is not adequate.  The worship is not spiritual.  The people are not genuine enough.  The list of possible blames is extensive.  It all seems to very confusing.

Perhaps the problem is not as complex as it first may seem.  Could it be that we here in the 21st Century are simply living in a famine - a God famine?   My ears are filled with the stories of people who are looking for a magnificent being in whom they could place complete trust.  All the words in life have been broken by everyone that there is now nowhere to turn for rest and trust.

All in this world are anxious to find good words, sound words and promises that are carried out - not discarded on a whim.  One used to be able to go to a church to find the voice of God, but often even there seekers only find broken promises, and shallow sayings that are supposed to help, but don't.

Where does one go to find the voice of God?  Where can you find the power of the Cross of Jesus Christ?

There is a place to find the voice of God again and break this famine of hearing from Him.  It doesn't have steeples.  It doesn't have pews or songbooks or choirs.  It is deplete of sermons.  No orchestras play here.  There's no multiple services, no women's meetings, no children's programs, no Christmas Cantatas nor any banquet halls.  It may be the last place on earth that people go to hear from God.

Solitude.  Being absolutely alone with God.  No one can take your hand and guide you there.  You don't have need of a guide.  All you need to do is want Him so much that nothing else will do.  Then secretly slip away to Him and He will meet you there.  James 4:8 says, "Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you...".

In this age of hyper-paced life, with everything exploding all around you, there is only one place to go to find God's voice.  It is to God.

Stop and get off the merry-go-round.  Sit in His lap for a day and you will hear the melody of His heart beat, feel the glory of His presence and be astonished at how much He loves you.
