Free Lunch
"Ho!
Every one who thirsts, come to the waters, and you who have no money come, buy
and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
"Why
do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not
satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in
abundance. (NAS)
Hey,
everyone that is out there, you are invited to a free lunch.
The invitation is sent out to all who are parched and very thirsty from
living in the desert of human experience. Day
by day we eat and drink of all that the abundant land of America has to offer
from sea to shining sea. Every
desire is pampered. Every dream has
a benefactor. Little of this
world’s goods are withheld from us.
Yet,
for a growing number of people, all of this gorging on the fruits of this world,
there is rising an intense thirst – a thirst for God, for righteousness.
Feeding on the delights of this country has caused a fast from God’s.
Everywhere you go you find individuals who are rich in this life, but are
destitute in the thing that counts most – their relationship with the Lord.
Thirsty, but bankrupt.
No
one can quench the inner thirst to see Him face to face.
So God cries out from Isaiah and says, “I have paid the price.
Come and drink of the free rivers of living waters prepared for you.” It is especially meant for those who are broke and broken.
“Buy,…”, He says. The word, “buy”, means to break your fast.
We get our word, breakfast from it.
In essence it is saying to break the long fast you have had with God, and
start a fast from the things you feed on in this life.
Feast on God, famine on the things of this world.
Two
things you should buy with your spiritual currency, wine and milk.
These two ingredients mixed together is the right recipe to fill a hungry
soul and quench the deep longing. Wine
represents the Holy Spirit. Milk
represents the Word of God.
When we take time to meditate, to stop and think, we are to ask for the Spirit to guide us in the Word. The Spirit is our eternal Shepherd, guide, revealing the truths of the Bible and insights into life. If you have a deep thirst, invite the Holy Spirit into your life and ask Him to lead you in the way of Christ – the way of peace and satisfaction.
